No Variety but He has a Review

 

Today my menu really did lack variety but overall I was pretty satisfied with what I put in my belly.  Sometimes I get stuck on certain flavors and that is all I feel like eating that particular day.  Today it was sunflower seed butter and jelly – a combo that I could practically live off of. 

Lunch was salmon salad which was super simple – canned salmon (from Trader Joe’s), peeled & chopped apple and mustard.

I also had 2 slices of whole wheat bread topped with swiss cheese and sunflower seed butter & 365 Wild Blueberry Fruit Spread.  On the side I had a handful of cherry tomatoes and the remainder of the apple.

Dinner looked pretty much the same except for the salmon salad, a different veggie and the delivery system was a whole wheat english muffin. I could not eat salmon twice in one day but I can eat SBJ multiple times.

I also consumed 1/2 a cup of cottage cheese with dinner – a little extra protein for good measure.

I was hankering for a little something sweet so I ate 2 caramel apple rice cakes – one topped with sunflower seed butter (I told you I was gobbling that stuff up like mad today) & the other topped with TJ’s Pumpkin Butter (another staple in my diet the past few days). 

I guess I am in kind of a food rut.  Not sure why, but I am not feeling very adventurous the past few days, even salads are just not appealing to me as much – who am I????  I am very happy eating my squash, drinking my V8 and Amazing Grass. They really treats my belly nicely and do not cause any intestinal pain.

Here is the man for the review -

Why did I wait so long to put this on a burger?!?  This stuff kills A1 or Worcestershire, I tell you.  Straight up on a burger it was even better than in the Sloppy Bob mix Sammie made.  It’s kind of sweet with a hint of smokiness, almost but not quite like a barbeque sauce, but it has also got a certain pungency that must be coming from the tamarind in the mix.  Normally I am not one for dressing up a steak very much, but I am sneaking a bottle of this into a steakhouse.  This stuff was made with beef as it’s cosmic destiny.

I am sure the title does not surprise you, especially if you have been following my blog for a while.  You all know that I concoct some pretty wacky things to eat and this morning I whipped up another odd ball.

I decided to work in some greens for breakfast – Zucchini Oat Bran anyone?

I shredded a small zucchini and added it to the pot along with 1/2 a cup oat bran, 1/2 a scoop Jay Robb Vanilla Rice Protein powder and water.  I let the mix cook for a while, adding more water as needed – I do not like my oats to dry, I like them fluffy and moist. I added a good dose of cinnamon and 1/2 a cup frozen blueberries when the consistency was to my liking.

I topped it off with a tablespoon of Sunflower Seed Butter (I had to bust out a new jar this morning) and a tablespoon of TJ’s Pumpkin Butter.

It was delicious.  I do wish that I could taste the zucchini more but it kind of gets lost with all the other flavors going on.  It is a good way to sneak in veggies and not even know it – well besides the fact that there are green streaks throughout the bowl. 

On top of being super yummy, it was a great post-workout masterpiece.  At the gym this morning I did 30 minutes on the Elliptical, 30 minutes on the Arc Trainer (both machines I used were the ones with moving handles – I can not stand the ones that do not work your arms) and then I ventured into the land of free weights.  After a little foam rolling I boogied home to clean off the grime.  I walked into a very loud house this morning.  D was in his room playing the drums while daddy was still in bed.  At least he closed our bedroom door to try to let Charlie sleep a little more.  I really can not even imagine what it will be like when my house is no longer crazy – I will be so bored.  Another thought - what if there were two monkeys strutting about – YIKES!!!  I think that our little family is just right.  Although, I do see pregnant ladies and can not help but feel that little pull on my heart for a wee one.  Then I remind myself how easy D is now and what it would be like to start all over again. Charlie is probably shaking his head if he is reading this. 

Back to school today for the D Man which means that I might be able to get some cleaning done around the homestead.  I really need to break out the vacuum and run a dust rag over a few surfaces.

Let it Grow

 

I have not mentioned this yet to you guys, I have decided to grow my hair out.  This is going to be tough and I foresee a lot of bad hair days in my future.  I am well prepared – I bought a couple hats.

Today I am sporting a green corduroy one that I found at the Gap.  It was in the guys section and it is a little big but who cares?  D told me that he likes this hat.  I let him choose between the 2 that I bought and this was the winner.  Be on the lookout for the other one – trust me, I will be needing to cover up this mop as it grows in.  Thankfully my hair grows really quickly. 

Nothing like hat head at the end of the day.

Onto some eats.

Lunch was salmon salad with mayo and apple.  I also drank some veggies – am I the only one that digs V8?  Please tell me I am not.

For dinner, I could not resist creating oats in a jar.  There was a little over a tablespoons worth left and it was calling to me.

I filled this guy to the brim with apple cinnamon oats.  I added a layer of cottage cheese somewhere in there.

I just tucked my little man into bed and now I am going to go plop down and watch TV.  Well a load of laundry must get changed over before I do that – of course.

He’s Turning Me into a Coffee Junky

Why does my child not sleep through the night anymore?  He is waking me up EVERY night. Whether it is because he has to go to the bathroom – can he not just walk downstairs and do his business by himself?  Or he needs a drink – another task he is fully capable of doing on his own.  Ever since we put a stop to letting him sleep in our bed, we have been paying the price – that would be lack of ZZZZZZZZ’s.  He does sneak in after I leave for the gym so this morning he woke me up at 3 AM and asked me if I was getting up – um, NO!!!  He then kept coming in my room with some excuse to talk to me.  By the time my alarm was going to go off, I was so ready to not be in my bed anymore.  He seriously will stand next to my bed and say “mommy I really need to tell you something – I love you.”  I know it sounds cute and all but I really just want to get some sleep.

All that being said – I am turning into a coffee junky.  I actually had a cup yesterday afternoon and I was fully able to go to bed at 9 last night.  I am still loving my French Press coffee maker and I have quite the collection of coffees to choose from.  My latest addition is Blueberry Cobbler. 

This morning I drank 2 cups of coffee – something that I NEVER do anymore.  I try to limit my caffeine consumption to 1 cup in order to avoid the shakes but I just could not help myself.  So far I am ok but I am going to make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the morning – that usually helps me avoid the jitters too. 

Obviously I booked it to the gym as soon as my feet hit the floor this morning.  I did a 5 mile run and 20 minutes on the Arc Trainer (with moving handles).  I ventured into the weight room for a great strength training session.  I pulled out a few oldie but goodie moves today – Reverse Crossover Lunge being one I have not done in a while.  I ended with some foam rolling before heading home. 

Breakfast was a bowl of Blueberry Oat Bran topped with the same Fall flavors as yesterday.

I am a complete Sunflower Seed butter convert.  Peanut butter just does not compare anymore.

This yumminess was the perfect start to my day (along with the coffee).  I am hoping that the 2 cups of caffeine will keep me bright eyed.

What’s your favorite flavor?

If I had to choose a favorite flavor jam/jelly/fruit spread, I would definitely pick blueberry.  What is your favorite flavor? What brand do you prefer?  I really like Trader Joe’s Reduced Sugar Blueberry Jelly – I did not think to purchase a jar when I was there yesterday – oops!  Today we ran to Whole Foods where I picked up this sweet spread.

For dinner I topped a 1/2 a whole wheat english muffin with sunflower seed butter and Wild Blueberry Fruit Spread. On the other english muffin half I melted a slice of swiss cheese.  I added some solid veggies to the meal (unlike my liquid variety at lunch) – a small zucchini and half of a small summer squash cut into spears.

I also ate 1/2 a cup of cottage cheese with my baby bunny spoon (this was mine when I was a baby).

Nothing to fancy smancy on the menu but it did the trick. 

Once D is asleep, I am going to try and convince Charlie to give me a back massage.  I did some Turbo Jamming yesterday for a workout and my back muscles are feeling a bit sore.  I had not done that workout for a while and I can actually tell how many different muscles I used.  I guess I should try to do it a little more often seeing as it really does challenge my body differently than the workouts I put in at the gym and running.  I used to do Turbo all the time but I have not been able to make it to the classes at my gym and the DVD I have at home can get over used.  I wish that I could find different Turbo workouts that I can do at home.  I am pretty sure the one that I have is the only one that is out there.  Do any of you know of a different Turbo DVD?  It really is an amazing routine so any info I can get I would appreciate.  Thanks!

Fall Flavor

A great way to get your tastebuds into the Fall spirit is to crack open a jar of Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Butter.

And eat a spoonful on top of your oat bran.

That is what I did for my breakfast this morning after my fabulous workout at the gym.  It added just enough sweetness to the mix and a perfect blend of spices to really remind my of Fall.

For my workout this morning I did my favorite 20,20,20 combo.  That would be 20 minutes on the Stair Climber, 20 minutes on the Elliptical (with moving handles) and a 20 minute run on the Treadmill.  I followed that up with free weights. It was a great variety and I left the gym feeling ready to get the day going.  Good thing too - I had to babysit this morning so I really needed the pep in my step.  I was asked to switch days this week so I now have Wednesday off. It works out well this week since D has today off from school.  That will be one less day of craziness for me seeing as I am cleaning on Friday.  Remember the madness that comes with that. 

When we got home I was really in need of some food.  Instead of just having a snack, I made an early lunch. 

I made tuna salad with a tbsp of 365 Light Mayo and a little peeled & chopped apple. I drank 2 servings of veggies too.

That would be eight ounces of V8 – I forgot how much I like this stuff.

I ate the rest of the apple dusted with cinnamon along with a TJ’s Whole Wheat Bagel and a tbsp Pumpkin Butter.

The D Man has had a pretty icky cough the past few days but is not acting sick otherwise.  I think that today we will take it easy. I am hoping that by the time he has school again he will be better.

Part of the Act

Yesterday the gang headed to King Richard’s Faire which is a Renaissance faire in Carver, MA that runs most of September and October.

It is really hard to tell the difference between the people who work at the faire and the visitors.

I think these two ladies where, in fact, part of the cast.

I am not sure if these two where or not.  Either way, the costumes that you see are really beautiful.  There are a lot of people who get so involved in the faire spirit.

We had a great time but we were all pooped by the time we left.

I was a bad blogger this weekend and did not take many food pictures.  I did bake my honey his apple goodie for the week.  I am still working on the loot that we picked last Sunday.

I made Apple Crisp for him this time.  He said that this apple delight was spot on.

Drink My Greens

Good evening blog friends. I hope that your Friday has been going well.  I got to hang with Pirate D this morning.  I really never know who I am going to meet up with in my house.

I started my day super early with a great workout at the gym.  I did 30 minutes on the Elliptical (with moving handles) and then I did a 30 minute walking hill climb on the Treadmill – it was great.  I finished with a great round of weights and lots of stretching – foam rolling is still working well for me.  Someone asked what I do for weights. I am a big fan of dumbbells and kettlebells. I do use some of the machines for a few leg exercises but other than those few, I don’t find them to be as effective.  To work my abs, I do a lot of sit-ups on the decline bench and hanging crunches.  I have been a gym junky for so many years that I pretty much know my way around the place blindfolded. I don’t have anything written down on paper that I do each day but I do not work the same muscle groups on back-to-back days.  The routine I have going works for me. 

After hitting the shower it was oat bran time.  This was the same mix as yesterday but I used 3/4 cup frozen mixed berries instead of just blueberries.  It was fabulous.

Today I actually drank some greens.  I finally decided to purchase Amazing Grass Green Super Foods – Berry flavor.  After reading the benefits of wheat grass, I thought that I would give it a try and see how my body likes it.  The taste is not anything terrific but I think that I will be able to handle it.  It definitely tastes like grass.  D was like “what is that you are drinking Mommy? I am NOT drinking that.”  I informed him that I was not going to make him drink it, it is for me only.  He said that he doesn’t like grass so I can have it all for myself.

For lunch I mixed a pouch of Pillar Rock Salmon with a little peeled & chopped apple and a tablespoon 365 Light Mayo.

I know it doesn’t look like anything fancy but it really did taste great.  I love this brand of salmon.  It has a great flavor and not at all fishy (a few I have tried in the past have been a bit strong for my palate).

My dinner featured a Chicken Apple Sausage Patty by Wellshire.

Are you ready for my masterpiece?  I cooked 1/2 a cup of oatmeal with water and cinnamon.  I then added a cooked apple (peeled, chopped, sprinkled with cinnamon and cooked in the microwave for a few minutes). Once the oats were in my bowl, I added the sausage patty which I chopped into bite size pieces.  Lastly I added a tablespoon of Sunflower Seed Butter and PB2.  Yes, I eat strange things, but I am not kidding you – this was delicious!!

It isn’t even 7:30 yet and I am already in my jammies.  I am such an old lady.  D and I have a busy day tomorrow so I am planning on hitting the hay early. We are going to King Richard’s Faire with my sis and her family.  Charlie has plans so D and I will be having some Mommy/Son fun.  I hope you have a great night.
