Everyone Loves a Fort

These two are ALL about forts.  They will take anything they can get their hands on and construct some sort of hideout.

They had me using pillows and blankets to cover up any holes in the top – I thought for sure this thing was going to cave.

They didn’t even care that they were playing in a princess tent.

Check out the sweet tunnel leading from one fort to the next.

Blue (the dog) was even amused.

He decided to joined in the fun.  I was also crammed into that thing at one point.  I was the driver, D was InuYasha and Rocco was a Slug Monster – we had quite a posse.

When we got home I quickly became the worst mother in the world – I made him eat carrots with his dinner.

Yeah, that is a yuck face. He is going to have to learn to like them because I am determined to get him to eat veggies at least once a day.  Please, baby carrots, I went easy on him. It is not like I made him eat brussels sprouts (which I happen to love).

I had myself a salad – lettuce, zucchini, grape tomatoes, cottage cheese and hummus.  And if I had not eaten enough vegetables today, I gobbled up a baked sweet potato too. No one has to force me to eat my veggies.

Or fruit for that matter.  I am pretty sure I OD’d on fruit today.  Between the Blueberries and banana at breakfast, apple for a snack, then watermelon, cantaloupe and a nectarine for dessert, I hit my quota and then some for the day.  What can I say, I love fruit and I can seriously eat it over any sweet bakery dessert any day.

My little man has an appointment to drink a luscious barium smoothie tomorrow. Here is the tough part, his test is at 1:45 and he can not eat 6 hours prior.  That means that I can not let him eat anything past 7:45 tomorrow morning.  He better make breakfast a biggie.  Thankfully Charlie will be working from home so I can leave D with him while I go and babysit at the gym. I could not imagine making him starve after romping around with all his buddy’s all morning.  It is nice that we have all been able to go to D’s appointments together. I know that it helps to have both of us there to comfort him.

I am not sure what the blogging schedule will be like tomorrow so I’ll post when I get a chance.  See you then.  Have a great night.

Two little Monkeys

My sweet tart is loving the fact that he can now have regular yogurt again. He likes vanilla with a swirl of maple syrup – the real stuff.

I am loving the Organic Pink Lady apple that I found at Trader Joe’s – this baby was SWEET!!!

I whipped up some tuna salad for lunch but tried a little experiment with some black beans.

I used 1/2 a cup of these guys

mashed with 1 tablespoon of water

I added a can of tuna (drained)

Not looking very pretty now is it?

That’s better. I can always count on a little veg to liven things up. I added diced zucchini, red pepper and halved grape tomatoes.  I seasoned the mix with cumin, paprika and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.  The beans and tuna really did taste great together. This was a protein and flavor packed lunch.

I am hanging out with these 2 monkeys this afternoon.

We played some hide and seek.  The dog keeps giving away our hiding spots. He is a hound dog after all.

Time to go make sure those two are not up to no good.  Have a great day.

Asking for a Bath

Yesterday our neighbor brought over a gift for D that she bought him while she was in Florida. It is a little pirate ship and a raft. He kept asking me this morning if he could take a bath – I seized the moment.

When it came time for cleaning he told me he only wanted to take a bath to play not to get clean.  My boy likes his layer of grime.  Too bad for him, I was armed with a washcloth and soap.

After getting all spruced up my sweetie pie ate ALL his lunch.  The lactose test was negative so he is back to regular dairy again.  I can always win with a grilled cheese.

He had some strawberries too – the only fruit that he will eat without a fuss.

Mommy got some berries for herself today. Check out these beauties that I picked up at Trader Joe’s today. I got all these for $5.99.  You know what I will be adding to my oats tomorrow morning.

I also got a massive container of grape tomatoes.  They were the perfect addition to my mini frittata that I made myself for dinner tonight.

I made it with 4 egg whites and one whole egg. Then I topped the eggs with cooked bell peppers and halved grape tomatoes. I stuck it under the broiler until the tomatoes were soft and the eggs were fully cooked.

I hope your week is off to a good start.  Enjoy your evening.

Happy Monday! Did you enjoy your weekend?  We managed to get a little bit of sunshine but today it is back to rain.  I wish that I planted a vegetable garden this year.  With all the rain we are getting, it would be blossoming with yummy healthy veggies by now.

So there will be changes to the blog as of today. I am no longer going to take pictures of every meal.  I will be posting once or twice a day. I mainly want to keep blogging so that my mom can see her family from Maine and enjoy watching D and his daily activates.  That means more D pictures, less food pictures.  I have been blogging for over a year and feel that a change is in order. I am a bit bored and I can definitely tell that you all are too – I think that I have lost a few of you guys along the way.

When life takes a turn down a tough road, you have to adapt to the changes and I feel that the blog needs to be handled that way too. I am so thankful for the friends that I have made through my blog and I always enjoy the heart felt comments.  I hope that you stick with me as I try something new and learn what direction the blog needs to go.  My main focus is of course my sidekick and his tummy but I still want to have some sort of outlet that I can call my own.  I love to write which allows me to be creative – as an artist I absolutely need that.

Now on with the show.  My little guy has been up late 2 nights in a row which led him to sleep in extra late today by that I mean past 8.  Yes, he is in my bed – we are soft and do not have the heart to kick him out.

When he got up he was very upset that Daddy had already left for work and he did not get to say goodbye.  Usually his bubby does not make it to the breakfast table (we make him put it in his bed), but since he was upset I let him have a few extra minutes with it. Unfortunately he gave me a hard time with breakfast and refused to finish.  Someone is going to be hungry soon.

I was a good doobie and ate all mine – blueberry banana oats with PB2 – I’m not wasting a bite.

That is how my morning is going and we are still in our PJ’s.  It is so crummy out today – I just want to see the sun. This is the weird summer we are having.  We have not been able to even go swimming yet.

How is your summer going?  Are you ready to float away on a raft like us or have you been luck to enjoy the sun?  I hope you have a great day.

The Perfect Day for a Wedding

On Saturday Charlie and I attended my cousin’s wedding.  The weather was fabulous – I think they got the best day we have had all month.

I wore my new dress from Anthropologie – remember the one that I ended up ordering from a store in PA.  It was so comfortable and the perfect style for an outdoor summer wedding.

Me and the Groom (my cousin)

The groom & best man (the groom’s younger brother)

My sister & me

I was honored that they asked me to do a reading.  It was Hebrews 13:1-4a, 5-6b. I literally practiced the whole ride to the wedding. I did not want to mess up and thankfully I didn’t.

My cousin is a firefighter so they left for the reception in a fire truck.

The reception was held in the backyard of her parent’s house.

There was a massive tent set up which worked out perfectly.  It kept all the guests out of the sun with plenty of room to party.

Our table – we got to sit with the groom’s parents.

Their first dance.

Everyone looked gorgeous.

A simple yet elegant cake.

The bride’s father did an amazing job with all the flower gardens in the yard. It was breathtaking.

This was one of the most beautiful weddings that I have been to.  The bride told me it was everything that she had pictured it to be.  What a great way to start their lives together.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Mrs. Clean

Today is a cleaning day so I must make this snappy.  I still need to get D dressed and pack up my cleaning gear.

I went to the gym this morning due to the fact that I am still a little freaked out about the robbery less than a mile away from my house.  They never caught the guy and I know it is highly unlikely that he is in the area but I still wanted to feel safe indoors today.  My workout consisted of 30 minutes on the Elliptical, 30 minutes Running on the Treadmill and weights.

After washing off the grime I made a typical RWR breakfast.

Stovetop oats with banana, blueberries, cinnamon and PB2

Don’t get me wrong, fresh BB are delicious, but I really love how frozen BB turn the oats a lovely shade of purple.

I truly look forward to breakfast every day – I love my oatmeal.

Time to get the show on the road and go attack some dust bunnies.

What is your favorite meal of the day? Do you have a particular dish that you like to have for that meal?  As you all know, my day is not the same unless I have my tummy filling bowl of oaty love.

Happy Friday!!!  Have a great day.
